RTP & TCP Taping Machines
Designed to apply layers of tape (Kevlar®, glass etc.) onto plastic liners in the manufacture of Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipe (RTP) & Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP)
RTP & TCP Taping Machinery
Each head applies multiple tapes with standard tape tensions up to 1kN. The machine follows a signal from an upstream caterpillar and, with the use of dedicated software, lays the tapes accurately to the required specification. Typically supplied in multiples of 2 tape heads, the heads rotate in opposite directions to cancel out the rotation forces generated when applying the tapes.
Up to 16 RTP taping machines can be configured in an RTP taping line to provide multiple reinforcement layers. The pipe made by these machines is widely used in the oil & gas, and water and district heating markets. Ridgway also supply heating and consolidation units to fuse each reinforcement layer in the manufacture of Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP).
Ridgway supply reinforcement taping lines for bonded and unbonded RTP / TCP pipes for use in the Oil, Gas, Hydrogen and Carbon Capture industries. Liner pipe is pulled from a large drum by caterpillars. Tapes are wound around the pipes and then the reinforced pipe is wound onto another large drum. Bonding ovens can be supplied to fully bond the tape layers to each other and the liner pipe.
Control systems enable the
production line to be operated from a single point. ‘Recipes’ can be created, saved and loaded to enable rapid changeover from one pipe size/type to another.
Quality assurance systems include active tape gap measurement and control, precise tape tension control and data capture.
Camera systems enable viewing of the pipe being unwound, tapes being applied, heating systems and pipe winding.
Servo drives for precise layering control.
Graduated sector plates fitted to all final rollers for precise angle adjustment.
Automated positioning system for accurate tape application.
Close loop controlled electronic braking for precise and constant tape tensioning.
Control cabinet with remote diagnostics.
Modern control system interfaces with other production line equipment – such as caterpillars and carousel drum stands.
Haul through caterpillars and drum stands can also be supplied to create a complete RTP taping line.
Caterpillars, Heating Units & Drum Stands
The 4 track caterpillars are self-centering to accommodate a range of pipe diameters. They pull the pipe through the line at a controlled speed. This provides a speed signal that the tape heads synchronise to ensuring accurate tape wrapping.
Bonding ovens are supplied complete with precision temperature control systems to bond the tapes to the liner pipe and to each other.
Large drum stands (up to 5m diameter capacity) are required at each end of the line for the liner pipe and reinforced pipe. They are fully integrated into the line control systems.
Umbilical's
This umbilical taping machine is designed to
apply an array of plastic based tapes to umbilical pipelines. As the umbilical passes through the machine, the rotating tape head produces spiral wraps onto the umbilical. The machine is fitted on rails to allow for tape package changes without the need to stop the umbilical production line.

Iris Guides
In addition too the RTP and TCP taping machines, Ridgway offer a rang of Iris Guides that fit to a variety of machines to provide a tailored roller guide system. The rollers use a range of material to suit the customer needs, hand heald or pnumatic holdings and available in a variety of sizes.
