Mike brings a strong track record of delivering sustainable business growth in engineering and manufacturing environments. He joins from TT Electronics, where he significantly increased turnover and profitability, and has previously held Managing Director roles at Dynamic Aerospace Fabrications and Pattonair, following a 31-year career at Rolls-Royce.

Importantly for customers, Ridgway’s existing leadership team; including Andy Glanville, Andy Clarke, Tony Hart and Stephen Hunt will continue in their roles, providing continuity of expertise, long-standing customer relationships and deep technical knowledge.

Ridgway Machines brings decades of experience in the design and manufacture of advanced winding, taping and insulation machinery. The company is a leading provider of bespoke equipment for superconducting cables, coils and advanced electrical systems, enabling customers to transition from prototype development to scalable, repeatable production.

Leicester-based Ridgway Machines will operate as a subsidiary of Tokamak Energy, with the existing brand, workforce and facility remaining unchanged.

TE Magnetics launched in September 2024 to focus on the industrial deployment of transformative high temperature superconductors (HTS). This is a key technology that will enable the next generation of energy-producing fusion devices and has the capacity to disrupt a range of sectors worth hundreds of billions of pounds.

Ridgway Machines, founded in 1920, develop solutions for winding and insulating superconducting magnets and cables, and will enable TE Magnetics to scale up its UK manufacturing facilities to produce commercial products fit for multiple industries.

RTP is revolutionising these industries, outperforming steel pipes in strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, flexibility and cost. It is capable of withstanding high pressures and temperatures making it ideal for oil and gas pipelines, chemical transportation, and offshore applications. Individual RTP pipe lengths  can extend for hundreds of metres, drastically cutting the number of inline joints, on-site welding. In addition, by eliminating corrosion, RTP pipelines offer much lower overall service life costs with the added benefit of being more environmentally friendly. Total life of pipeline costs can be reduced by as much as 50% in some applications.

Ridgway Machines are a world leading engineering organisation addressing the global requirement for precision wrapping machinery for the manufacture of RTP.

Ridgway design and manufacture machinery to accurately apply the reinforcement layers using materials such as aramid, glass or carbon fibre which are thermally bonded onto polymer liner pipes. Some pipe designs do not require bonding enabling faster production.

World leading manufacturers such as Strohm & Baker Hughes already produce RTP/TCP, pipes for offshore and onshore applications.
