Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Leicester | Salary: Negotiable

Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced CAD design engineer (ideally both 2D and 3D) with the relevant skill set to design and detail special purpose mechanical machinery. You will have experience of working on multiple design projects and working to deadlines, whilst not compromising quality.

You will be working with local suppliers as well as customers so you should have a positive and focused approach with good communication skills.

The job and responsibilities

  • Design and detail special purpose machines
  • Multitasking including working on multiple projects
  • Development of existing products and new product innovation and conception
  • Parts detailing
  • Parts list / BOM construction
  • Specifications writing
  • CE & Safety compliance
  • Manuals and supporting documents

The ideal candidate will have the following skills

  • Understanding of and competency in using AutoCAD 2D and Solidworks 3D mechanical drawing systems
  • Proven track record in design and detail of special purpose machinery
  • Be able to manage projects, deliver on time and meet customer expectations
  • Excellent communication skills for liaison with customers, the shop floor and suppliers
  • Can do attitude
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Capable of working on own initiative
  • Be able to work on multiple projects, deliver on time and meet customer expectations
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Full international passport

Knowledge of the following would be an advantage

  • MRP systems
  • IT literate
  • Experience of servos and inverters and their uses (not actual programming)
  • Inertia, stress calculations, torque, bearing loads, etc
  • PLC's and their uses (not actual programming)
  • Electrical systems (not design, but basic understanding)
  • Commercial awareness
  • Estimating capability
  • Ability to liaise with customers and suppliers
